Women's Tennis Falls to No. 26 Tulsa, 4-2

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 28 University of Memphis women's tennis team (16-5) fell to No. 26 Tulsa (17-5) for the second time this season with a 4-2 loss Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Center.
After a loss at No. 3 doubles, Tiffany Welcher and Alyssa Hibberd won 8-3 over Saana Saarteinen and Michelle Farley at No. 2 to keep Memphis alive in doubles play. However, the Lady Tigers would fall at No. 1 to give Tulsa a 1-0 advantage.
In singles, Hibberd evened up the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Maria Sant'Anna at No. 5 before Tulsa regained the lead with No. 18 Samantha Vickers defeating No. 44 Courtney Collins, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1. Caroline Wegner responded with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Renata Kurickova at No. 6 to tie the match at 2-all. However, Tulsa would clinch the victory with wins at No. 3 and No. 4 as Saana Saarteinen won in straight sets over Skylar Kuykendall and Michelle Farley pulled out a three-set win over Liza Tymchenko for a 4-2 win.
Memphis will travel to Houston later this week for the Conference USA Championships, Apr. 18-21, at the University of Houston's John E. Hoff Courts.
