Women's Tennis Advances to American Semis With 4-1 Win over UCF

TAMPA, Fla. - For the second-straight season, the University of Memphis women's tennis team eliminated UCF from the conference tournament by posting a 4-1 win over the Knights in the American Athletic Conference quarterfinals Friday morning.
Memphis (14-8) jumped out to a 1-0 lead over UCF (7-13) following doubles play. Alyssa Hibberd and Skylar Kuykendall posted an 8-4 victory at No. 3 before Marta Morga and Liza Tymchenko clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 1.
The Lady Tigers got help from the bottom of the lineup as Anki Wind and Tymchenko recorded wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Wind took down Clare Mendell, 6-2, 6-4, with her team-high 24th win of the season, while Tymchenko was victorious over Sofia Baptista, 6-2, 6-2.
Wegner clinched the match for Memphis with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2 over Caroline Eberhart to become the third Lady Tiger to reach 20 wins this season.
UCF earned its lone point as Josephine Haraldson defeated Kuykendall, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 to make the final score 4-1.
Memphis faces No. 3 seed USF tomorrow at 12 p.m. (ET) in the semifinal match.
