Complete Results in PDF Format ORLANDO, Fla. - The 2011 spring slate came to a close on Friday for the University of Memphis women's tennis team, falling in a 4-0 decision to No. 52 Marshall in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championships at the Lake Cane Tennis Center. With the loss, Memphis wraps up the season with a 16-10 overall mark while finishing 3-2 in conference play. Starting with doubles action, Marshall's Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna, the 15th-ranked duo in the country, would be too much for Memphis' Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray to handle, as the Lady Tigers dropped at the No. 1 position 8-5. The Thundering Herd would lock up the first point of the match when Catherine Kellner and Maria Voscekova pulled out a close 8-6 win over Memphis' tandem Mariya Slupska and Kathleen Hawkins on court two. Then in singles competition, U of M netters at the top three flights found themselves in the middle of tight battles, but wouldn't get the chance to finish the job as Marshall captured the remaining points needed at the bottom tiers. At the top spot, Collins, ranked 113th in the nation in singles in ITA polls, was working to fight off No. 53 Kissell in the third set, while Slupska also was out front 2-6, 6-1 0-3 at No. 2. However, Thundering Herd netters rolled to straight-set wins against Gray, Hawkins and Andrea Arques-Garcia at the No. 4-6 positions respectively and Marshall (18-5 overall) now advances to the semi-finals for a showdown with No. 2 seed and 33rd-ranked SMU on Saturday. With 16 wins, the Lady Tigers tie the program record for most wins in a single season, which was set during the 2002-03 season. Slupska, who joined the team in January, finishes the season with a team-high 19 wins in individual play in addition to tying Arques-Garcia for the most doubles wins at 15.
