Three Lady Tigers Advance in Ole Miss Championship Singles Draws

OXFORD, Miss. - Three Lady Tigers advanced in to the quarterfinal rounds with wins in singles play at the Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic, Friday. Sophomore Marjorie Ondeck came back from a 6-4 first set loss to advance with a 6-2, 7-5 second and third set showing over Southern Miss' Ali Blackett. Ondeck will face Arkansas State's Maria Oprea at noon on Saturday in the Red Draw Singles. A pair of Lady Tigers advanced in the Silver Draw Singles, as junior Ekin Zafir used a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jacksonville State's Laura Lundy to earn a quarterfinal match-up against Troy's Marina Arres at 9 a.m., Saturday. In that same draw, junior Kristin Chamberlain won her first-ever singles match in a Memphis uniform, downing Southern Miss' Natalia Parrado, 6-2, 6-2, to advance to a 9 a.m. match against Arkansas State's Menna Kamal, Saturday. The other three Lady Tigers will play Saturday morning in the consolation rounds of their respective brackets. Sophomore Amanda Brown came up on the short end of a 7-6 first set tiebreaker, then fell 6-0 in the second set to Jacksonville State's Eloah Lopes. Brown will play Southern Illinois' Andrea Courtney at 8 a.m., Saturday, in the Silver Draw Singles consolation. In White Draw Singles, sophomore Dara Toulch fell 6-4, 6-1 to Southern Miss' Lauren Gutterman, while Lindsey Wiseman fell short in her first-ever Lady Tiger singles match, 6-2, 6-0 against Mississippi State's Tatiana Feit. Toulch will face UL Lafayette's Martina Ruiz De Gauna at 10:30, Saturday morning, while Wiseman will play Southern Illinois' Martina Ce, also at 10:30 a.m. On the doubles side, Memphis went 2-4 on the day Friday. In Blue Draw Doubles, Ole Miss' Renaudin and Van de Stroet downed Marjorie Ondeck and Lindsey Wiseman, 8-3. But the tandem bounced back with an 8-4 win over Jacksonville State's Marani and Ferris to advance to the consolation semifinals, which will be played at 8:00 a.m., Saturday.
In Red Draw Doubles, Memphis' duo of Kristin Chamberlain and Ekin Zafir fell to Arkansas State's team of Von Wyk and Zora, 8-3, before also advancing to the consolation semifinals on the strength of an 8-4 win over Southern Illinois' Skorupska and Tilton. Teammates Amanda Brown and Dara Toulch went 0-2 on the day in doubles, falling to the Arkansas State team of Chelminska and Kamal, 8-2, before falling to Jacksonville State's Lundy and Fuller, 8-2, in the consolation draw.
