Chamberlain and Zafir to Play in Consolation Championship Sunday

OXFORD, Miss. - The junior duo of Kristin Chamberlain and Ekin Zafir will play for their first doubles titles of the season when they face Southern Illinois' Cruise and Ce in the consolation championship at 9:30 a.m. The tandem bounced back from a first set loss to defeat Southern Illinois' Skorupska and Tilton, 8-4, before defeating UL Lafayette's Ruiz de Gauna and Gordon, 8-4, in the semifinals. In other Saturday action at the Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic, Marjorie Ondeck battled, but fell 7-5, 6-1 to Arkansas State's Maria Oprea in the championship quarterfinals, while Ekin Zafir and Kristin Chamberlain each fell in the Silver Draw Singles quarterfinals. Zafir fell to Troy's Marina Arres, 6-2, 6-1, while Chamberlain battled back from a 6-4 first set loss to win the second set 6-4 before falling 6-1 in the third to Arkansas State's Menna Kamal. On the consolation side in singles, Dara Toulch won her opening set, 6-3, then fell 6-2, 6-2 to UL Lafayette's Martina Ruiz De Gauna, while Lindsey Wiseman fell to Southern Illinois' Martina Ce, 7-5, 6-4. In the Silver Singles consolation draw, sophomore Amanda Brown won her 8 a.m. match against Southern Illinois' Andrea Courtney, 6-0, 7-5 to advance to the semifinals of her bracket, but fell to another Southern Illinois opponent, Amanda Taillefer, 7-5, 6-1. In Blue Draw Doubles, Marjorie Ondeck and Lindsey Wiseman downed Jacksonville State's Marani and Ferris, 8-4, to advance to the semifinals of the consolation draw, but fell to Mississippi State's Banikova and Ferncova, the No. 2 seeds of the draw, 8-2.
