Doubles Tandems Strive In Second Day of Memphis Collegiate Invitational

In the second day of the inaugural Memphis Collegiate Invitational, the Lady Tigers were led by solid doubles performances from the tandems of Ashley Murdock and Courtney Collins in the BLUE 1 Flight and Marjorie Ondeck and Andrea Arques-Garcia in the BLUE 2 Flight. Both teams captured third place in their respective flights. Memphis' other doubles tandem of Amanda Brown and Dara Toulch captured fourth in the WHITE 1 Flight. Ashley Murdock and Courtney Collins beat their opponents (Kurdadze and Levy) from conference rival Tulane, 9-7. The pair finished 2-1 in their doubles flight. Senior Marjorie Ondeck and freshman Andrea Arques-Garcia, a native of Alicante, Spain, upended Lange and Siegel of Tulane, 9-7. The tandem also finished 2-1 in their doubles flight. Amanda Brown and Dara Toulch, both seniors for the Lady Tigers, fell 8-4 to Dvorak and Hamlin, also from Tulane. In singles, the Tigers were led by a valiant effort in the BLUE 1 Flight from two-time All-C-USA second team honoree Ashley Murdock, a senior from Memphis, Tenn. Murdock battled Alexandra Kichoutkin in a three set battle. Kichoutkin, ranked as high as 82nd in 2008, lost to Murdock in the first set, 7-5, before bounching back for a 6-4 decision in the second set and a 7-5 win in the deciding third set. Murdock will battle Memphis-native Angela McGahee from Murray State in the third place match tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Memphis also picked up a win from Ondeck in singles. The senior from Monroe, Ct., defeated Reischl of UT-Martin, 6-3, 6-1. Ondeck will face Webb of Murray State in the fifth place match of the WHITE 1 singles flight tomorrow at 10 a.m. Collins, a highly touted freshman from Fulton, Miss., lost to Vogel of Ole Miss, 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday. The newcomer will take on Levy of Tulane in the third place match of the GRAY 1 singles flight on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Toulch, a senior from Montreal, Quebec, fell to Beulieu of Tulsa, 6-3, 6-2, on Saturday. She will take on Tiley of UT-Martin in the third place match of the BLUE 3 singles flight on Sunday at 9:45 a.m. Brown, a senior from Whitby, Ontario, lost to Eroferva of Tulsa on Saturday, 6-2, 6-3. She will face-off with Podlipnik of Ole Miss in the third place match of the BLUE 2 singles flight at 8:30 a.m., on Sunday. Arques-Garcia lost to Winkelmann of UT-Martin, 6-1, 6-4, on Saturday afternoon. The freshman will take on Gerber of Tulane in the seventh place match of the WHITE 2 singles flight at 8:30 a.m., on Sunday. Memphis has four out of six singles players battling for third place on Sunday morning.
