EL PASO, Texas - The Lady Tiger tennis team had a rough opening day at the 2007 Miner Fall Invite.

Only two Lady Tigers got to play singles matches due to a shuffle in the line-up to keep two Memphis teammates from facing off in the first round, while two doubles tandems lost, while the team of Marjorie Ondeck and Lindsey Wiseman were forced to default their opening round doubles match.

The two other doubles teams from Memphis lost their opening round matches and moved to the West draws. The team of Kristin Chamberlain and Ekin Zafir fell 8-6, to the team of Hernandez and Creed from Lee College, while the team of Dara Toulch and Amanda Brown fell 8-5 to the Lee College duo of Rodriguez and Herrera.

In singles, Marjorie Ondeck was moved out of the Flight 2 draw, where she was originally scheduled to play teammate Kristin Chamberlain, and moved in to Flight 1. But she received a first-round bye, so has not yet gotten a chance to play singles at the tournament. Chamberlain was less fortunate, in getting an opponent originally slated to play in the Division I draw as UTEP's Marina Deluca won 6-0, 6-0. Chamberlain will now face another UTEP foe on Saturday morning, when she'll face Harmonie Chatagner on the other side of the net in a West draw match.

In Flight 3 singles, Ekin Zafir received a first round bye, and will face Cordelia Montemajor of Monterrey Tech, at 9 a.m., Saturday. Teammate Amanda Brown did get to play her singles match, falling 6-3, 6-2, to Montemajor, Zafir's Saturday opponent. Brown will receive a bye in the next round and will face Western New Mexico's Katarina Provenghi Saturday afternoon.

In Flight 4 singles, Dara Toulch fell to Monterrey Tech's Beatriz Bravo, 6-2, 6-4, and will now face Stephanie Shelton of Western New Mexico, Saturday. Also in the same flight, freshman Lindsey Wiseman had to default her match to Lindsey Green of New Mexico State, and is tentatively scheduled to face Elisa Owen of Western New Mexico State, Saturday.
