BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Memphis women's tennis team finished the 2009 Hoosier Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., with seven singles victories and four doubles victories. Courtney Collins, a freshman from Fulton, Miss., picked up two singles victories in her flight and earned a fifth place finish. Ashley Murdock, a senior from Memphis, Tenn., finished in fourth place in her singles flight.

Collins lost her first round match of the weekend to Mississippi State's Natalia Mayuk. The first set came down to a tiebreaker which Collins ultimately lost, losing the set, 7-6. Mayuk took the second set, 6-2.

In her second match of the weekend, Collins upended Kansas State's Karla Bonacic, 6-1, 6-4. Collins followed suit in the fifth place match defeating another Wildcat netter, taking down Ana Gomez Aleman, 6-1, 6-2.

Murdock, a two-time All-C-USA second team selection, took her first match of the weekend, upending Mississippi State's Radka Ferancova, 6-1, 6-2.

Murdock fell in her second round match, losing to Kansas State's Antea Huljev. She lost the first set, 6-1, but rallied to take the second set 7-5. The match came down to a third-set tiebreaker, which Huljev won, 10-7. Huljev competed at the No. 1 singles position for the Wildcats for the majority of the 2009 spring season.

Murdock fell in the third-place match of her flight, losing to Olesya Tsigvintseva, 6-3, 7-5. Tsigvintseva split time between playing No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Bulldogs during the 2009 spring season.

Three other Lady Tigers each won a match apieace. Marjorie Ondeck fell in her first two matches, but was victorious against Bonacic of Kansas State, 6-0, 6-2.

Freshman Andrea Arques-Garcia, a native of Alicante, Spain, upended Elizabeth Hall of Mississippi State, 6-1, 7-5 in her first match of the weekend.

 

 

Senior Dara Toulch, a native of Montreal, Quebec, also defeated Hall, 7-6(3), 6-4.

In doubles, the tandem of Collins and Murdock finished the weekend 2-2. In their opening match of the Hoosier Invitational, the duo upended Mississippi State's Jordan Zachary and Danielle Terpko, 8-3. Collins and Murdock also defeated LSU's Kylie Adamek and Kaitlin Burns, 8-1.

Ondeck and Arques-Garcia finished the weekend with a 1-2 marck. The pair defeated Kansas State's Gomez Aleman and Carmen Borau Ramos, 8-4.

The doubles duo of Brown and Toulch also picked up a win over Zachary and Terpko, 8-4.

The Lady Tigers women's tennis team will return to action with players competing at the ITF 10k in St. Louis, Mo., and the All-America National Invite in Los Angeles, Calif. The ITF 10k begins on Oct. 2 and the All-America National Invite commences on Oct. 3.
