Lady Tigers Pick Up Four Wins to Begin Razorback Classic

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team saw two doubles teams and two individuals advance one round further in their respective draws on the first day of Arkansas' Razorback Classic at the George M. Billingsley Tennis Center.
The highlight of the day for the Lady Tigers was sophomore Caroline Wegner's 6-4, 6-1 win over Auburn's No. 93 Paula de Man for her first win over a ranked opponent while donning the Blue and Gray. Freshman Marta Morga collected her first victory as a Lady Tiger with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Tulsa's Carol Benito.
Junior Alyssa Hibberd fell in a three-set match to Tulsa's Saana Saarteinen, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, but picked up an 8-4 win in doubles with Wegner over Northwestern State's Natalya Krutova and Daniela Simonova. Redshirt senior Liza Tymchenko dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Northwestern State's Tatiana Larina but teamed up with Morga to defeat Auburn's Ashley Kitchen and Lindsey Whitehead, 8-4. Freshman Anki Wind fell 6-4, 6-4 to Tulsa's Maria Sant'Anna and lost a 6-1 doubles match with Hibberd to Northwestern State's Larina and Polina Konop.
Memphis will return to the courts Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with doubles play followed by singles action at 10 a.m.
