Women's Tennis Starts Saturday Undefeated

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team completed its first round matches, Saturday, with an unblemished record in the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational. After Sabrina Lindemann, Monica Gonzalez-Gordo, Sumitra Rao and Marlene Dirnstorfer won their opening round matches, Friday, Lady Tigers Viktoria Gruber, Kristen Noble, Andrea Feichtinger and Rebecca Garner each won their opening rounds in delayed first-round matches, Saturday. Gruber won her Flight C Singles match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, over fellow C-USA competitor Samantha Liu from Cincinnati. Gruber now faces Louisiana-Monroe's Matilde Taborda, Saturday afternoon. Noble and Feichtinger each won their respective D Singles matches in straight sets, with both players winning the second set 6-0. Noble defeated Burgandy Moss, 6-3, 6-0, while Feichtinger downed Southern Miss' Jennifer Sibille, 6-2, 6-0.
Garner kept the Lady Tigers perfect through the first day of competition, battling to a 7-6 set one win before Olivia Shipley from UT-Martin battled back to win the second set 6-4. Garner took the third set, 6-4, to advance to a second round match against Katie Kelsey from Belmont, Saturday.
