OXFORD, Miss. - Robyn Jones, a freshman from Baton Rouge, La., advanced to the consolation finals of the Ole Miss Classic in only her second tournament as a member of the Memphis women's tennis squad. The freshman is 4-1 so far this fall, after being crowned her flight's champion at the 2008 Roberta Alison Fall Invite in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Sept. 27. Jones was knocked out of the main draw in the second round of play by Maria Ruiz de Gauna of Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns. Jones won the first set 6-1, but Ruiz de Gauna bounced back to take the final two sets, 6-2, 6-2. De Gauna was 9-3 in singles dual matches in her sophomore season at the University of Louisiana. In her first match of the consolation flight, Jones won by default over Elizabeth Hall of Mississippi State. Hall fell to Jones' fellow Memphis women's tennis player Dara Toulch at the Roberta Alison Fall Invite. In Jones' second match in the consolation flight, she won 6-0, 6-3, over Laura Lundy of Jacksonville State. Jones will face Jordan Zachery of Mississippi State in the consolation final to be played Sunday at the Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic on the courts at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss.
