The University of Memphis women's tennis team got a trio of first round singles wins and a pair of doubles wins on the opening day of the Air Force Invitational. But predicted rain in the area for Sunday will shorten the Lady Tigers' schedule in Colorado Springs, as the schedule is tentatively set right now to play two rounds of doubles and one final round of singles on Saturday.

In Flight 3 singles, sophomore Majorie Ondeck won her opening match, 6-4, 6-2 over Air Force's Erlyn Rudico, before falling to Colorado State's Anette Pohjalainen, 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals. She will face Denver's Bhavani Tirumurti in the third place match, Saturday.

In Flight 7 singles, sophomore Amanda Brown won her opening match, 6-2, 6-3, over Air Force's Katrina Eromin, then fell to Texas Tech's Gozde Unkaya, 6-1, 6-2. She is slated to play teammate Dara Toulch in the third place match, Saturday. Toulch won her opening match, 7-5, 6-4, over Colorado State's Kirsten Stople before falling to Air Force's Samantha Sarkis, 6-0, 7-5.

In Flight 5 singles, freshman Lindsey Wiseman dropped her opening match to Denver's Kaja Smole, 6-3, 6-0. But Wiseman bounced back with a 6-3, 6-0 win of her own over Colorado State-Pueblo's Valerie Boughton to advance to the consolation finals, Saturday, where she will face Wyoming's Carly Van Hollen in a fifth-place match.

In Flight 6 singles, junior Ekin Zafir fell 6-2, 6-3, to Colorado State's Caitlin Fluegge. But like Wiseman, Zafir bounced back with a win, defeating Portland State's Caitlin Stocking, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the fifth-place match. She will face Wyoming's Carolina Chaix in the Saturday match.

In doubles, the Lady Tigers had two entries with the team of Ekin Zafir and Dara Toulch winning their opening match, 8-5, over Colorado State's Fluegge and Pohjalainen. The Memphis duo will face Air Force's Rudico and Monreal at 9 a.m., Saturday in a semifinal match in Flight 2 doubles.

In Flight 3 doubles, Memphis also got a win from the doubles tandem of Marjorie Ondeck and Lindsey Wiseman, 8-2. That team will now face another Air Force team in a semifinal match, at 9 a.m., Saturday.
