Memphis junior Andrea Arques-Garcia played two strong tennis matches on Friday to advance to the main draw of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals. Arques-Garcia now joins her six teammates in action on Saturday.

"Andrea executed her game plan well and was successful in knocking off two quality opponents from Cincinnati and Tennessee," said Memphis assistant coach Taylor Taylor. "She played really well and did everything she set out to do. She had great support from her teammates and is excited to be moving on."

The first round of qualifying singles got underway Friday morning with Arques-Garcia taking on Cincinnati's Saffiya Ismail. She made quick work of the senior Bearcat, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to advance to the second round of qualifying. Arques-Garcia then faced off against Tennessee's Kayla McMurry, the only person standing between her and the main draw. She gave her teammates plenty to cheer about in a 6-3, 6-2, win.

All seven Tigers will now be competing in Saturday's main draw, with seven singles and three doubles teams in action. Doubles matches will begin at 8 a.m. with the singles draw scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Arques-Garcia was one of eight singles players and four doubles teams to make it through Friday's two rounds of qualifying at the USTA/ITA Regional event. Players from 20 teams have converged on The Racquet Club hoping to advance to the National Indoor Championships. Full results can be found by clicking HERE or by viewing the above PDF.

"It's exciting to have everyone here," said Memphis head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "The tournament has been great so far. It's just an added bonus to have Andrea move through the qualifying draw and have all our players in the main draw now."
