Women's Tennis Goes 12-0 on Day Two of Ohio Valley Regional

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - It was a successful day for the University of Memphis women's tennis team as the Lady Tigers posted six doubles and six singles victories in the main draw for a perfect 12-0 record on the second day of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
"I'm very proud of the effort and attitude," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "Results are obviously nice, but it's important to identify the root of results. The primary reason for our good results today was our attitude and mental toughness. I am thankful for the wonderful staff we have around our team that is able to put on such a great event, support the girls and have them fully prepared for every match."
Memphis began the day in doubles with Marta Morga and Skylar Kuykendall defeating Austin Peay's Ornella Di Salvo and Andra Cornea, 8-0 before Stefanie Mikesz and Anki Wind followed with an 8-7 (7) win over Kentucky's No. 8 seed Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff and Aldila Sutjiadi. The No. 6 seed duo of Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner ended the first round of play with an 8-6 victory over Xavier's Alex Brinker and Sydney Liggins.
In the round of 16, Hibberd and Wegner cruised with an 8-2 win over Ball State's Courtney Earnest and Toni Ormond. Mikesz and Wind then pulled out their second tiebreaker win of the day with an 8-7 (7-0) triumph over Christiana Raymond and Andreea Bandileanu of Miami (OH). Kuykendall and Morga followed with an 8-6 victory over the No. 4 seed of Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams from Tennessee. Memphis placed three doubles teams in the quarterfinals to lead the region.
In singles, Memphis continued its dominance as the No. 10 seed Hibberd defeated Middle Tennessee's Irina Constantinide, 6-0, 6-1, to move on to the round of 32. No. 9 Kuykendall followed with a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Middle Tennessee's Nayara Moraes to advance. At the bottom of the draw, 6th-seeded Liza Tymchenko earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Eastern Kentucky's Amandine Faouzi while Morga defeated Alix Thurman of Miami (OH), 6-4, 6-3. Rounding out the day for the Lady Tigers was Wind, who cruised with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Cornea while No. 15 Wegner took down Middle Tennessee's Jesse Grace, 6-2, 7-6 (6).
Memphis will start play in the doubles quarterfinals Sunday morning at 8 a.m. (CT). Kuykendall and Hibberd will get the Lady Tigers started in singles play tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. Players in the main draws will play two rounds of singles and one round of doubles on Sunday.
