Tymchenko Shares Consolation Title at Ohio Valley Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Sophomore Liza Tymchenko won two matches Sunday to advance to the consolation finals at the USTA ITA Ohio Valley Regional with victories over Caroline Hedrick of Butler and Alex Brinker of Xavier. Tymchenko and the No. 14 seed Daniela Vidal of Purdue agreed not to play the finals match, resulting in both being named co-champions of the consolation draw.
The rest of the Lady Tigers team wrapped up their regional as the team totaled 19 wins in three days at the tournament.
Also in the consolation draw with Tymchenko was Kelly Gray and Skylar Kuykendall, who dropped matches in the quarterfinals round. Gray was defeated by Brinker, 6-1, 6-0, while Kuykendall fell to Christiana Raymond of Miami (OH), 7-6, 6-1.
In the main draw, No. 5 Tiffany Welcher ended her run with a loss to No. 4 Lauren Mira of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles play, Welcher joined Alyssa Hibberd in facing No. 3 Ashleigh Antal and Marie Casares of Vanderbilt in the semifinals, which resulted in an 8-6 loss for the Lady Tigers. On the consolation side, Gray and Stefanie Mikesz also fell in the semifinals with an 8-6 loss to the No. 4 team of Vidal and Lynda Xepoleas.
Memphis will return to action Nov. 2-4 when they host the Memphis Invitational, which will bring in Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tulsa and Vanderbilt to The Racquet Club of Memphis.
