Four Lady Tigers Advance to Finals at Memphis Collegiate Invite

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team had four players advance to the singles finals in their respective flights and two doubles teams named co-champions on the second day of the Memphis Collegiate Invite at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
The Lady Tigers began the day with two wins in doubles play over former conference foe Tulsa. Junior Alyssa Hibberd and sophomore Caroline Wegner posted an 8-5 win over Renata Kuricova and Rongrong Leenabanchong while redshirt senior Liza Tymchenko and sophomore Skylar Kuykendall took down Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrique, 8-6. Both pairs were named co-champions in the Blue Draw.
On the consolation side, senior Stefanie Mikesz and freshman Anki Wind defeated Abilene Christian's Micah Hermsdorf and Brittney Reed, 8-3, to advance to the fifth-place match Sunday against Chattanooga's Kayla Jones and Katie Polk.
In singles, freshman Marta Morga was the first Lady Tiger to advance to the finals with a 6-1, 6-2 win over ACU's Nada Marjanovic. Morga will play Ana Rajkovic of Miami (OH) in the Orange Draw championship match.
Tymchenko followed with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Lipscomb's Jenny Borck to move on to play Andreea Badileanu of Miami (OH) in the Black Draw final. Wegner also won in straight sets, posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kuricova. Wegner will now face Tulsa's Saana Saarteinen, who defeated Wind 7-6 (4), 7-5, in the Gray Draw final.
In the White Draw, Mikesz recorded a three-set victory over Tulsa's Maria Sant'Anna, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, to advance to the finals against Leenabanchong.
In the Blue Draw, Kuykendall fell in the semifinal match to Enrique, 6-3, 7-5, while Hibberd dropped a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 match to Jones on the consolation side.
The final day of the Memphis Collegiate Invite will begin tomorrow indoors at 8 a.m. (CT) with doubles play.
