Doubles Team Advances to Semifinals at Dick Vitale Classic

SARASOTA, Fla. - The duo of Stefanie Mikesz and Anki Wind posted two wins Friday to move on to the doubles semifinals at the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic with an 8-7 (4) victory over Mississippi State's No. 48 Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran in the quarterfinals.
The pair first took down Auburn's Paula de Man and Reka Muller, 8-3, before defeating the tournament's No. 1 seed. The No. 4 seeded team of Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner also advanced to the quarterfinals but fell 9-7 to Notre Dame's Jennifer Kellner and Britney Sanders, Mikesz and Wind's opponent in Saturday's semifinal.
In singles, four Lady Tigers moved on to the round of 16 before falling in their second round matches. Skylar Kuykendall began the tournament with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) win over No. 117 Kellner. In the round of 16, Kuykendall fell to Florida's Stefani Stojic, 6-4, 6-4. Marta Morga posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Sabacinski before dropping a 6-4, 6-4 match to Florida's No. 75 Olivia Janowicz. No. 6 seed Wegner opened up with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mississippi State's Petra Ferancova, but came up short in a three-set match to Muller, 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. Tymchenko was the other Lady Tiger to make it through to the round of 16, recording a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 93 de Man before falling 6-1, 6-3 to Florida's Belinda Woolcock.
After dropping their first round matches, Mikesz, Wind and Hibberd won their consolation matches to advance to the quarterfinals. Mikesz highlighted the draw for Memphis by taking down No. 35 Sanders, 6-1, 6-1.
The Lady Tigers begin play tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. (ET) with Mikesz and Wind in the doubles semifinals.
