SARASOTA, Fla. - It was another successful day for the Memphis women's tennis team, going 5-0 on the second day of the Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic. Sophomore Liza Tymchenko moved on to the championship match in singles, while the senior team of Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray advanced to the doubles finals.

"Today was another great day," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "I couldn't be more proud than to have a singles and doubles team in the finals. The team's enthusiasm and effort has been unmatched thus far and we hope it will be the same tomorrow as we face members of the national championship team, Florida, in singles and doubles. We beat them today, and we can do it again tomorrow."

In the quarterfinals, Tymchenko took down Julie Sabacinski of Notre Dame, 6-2, 6-2, before upsetting No. 49 Alexandra Cercone of Florida, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals for her 12th win of the fall. Tymchenko will play the winner between Florida's Caroline Hitimana and Brianna Morgan in the finals tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.

Also in singles play was freshman Caroline Wegner, who was crowned co-champion of the consolation draw with Alabama's Antonia Foehse. Wegner advanced in the consolation draw with a 6-1, 6-1 win over East Tennessee State's Lyn Yee Choo, followed by a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alabama's Emily Zabor in the semifinals.

In doubles, Collins and Gray defeated Florida's Olivia Janowicz and Hitimana, 8-6, in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. The duo will go up against Florida's Morgan and Cercone tomorrow at 9 a.m. to close out their fall season.
