No. 33 Women's Tennis Heads to Oklahoma for Two Weekend Matches

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The No. 33 University of Memphis women's tennis team (1-1) travels out of the state of Tennessee for the third-straight weekend when they head to Norman, Okla., to face Iowa (2-0) and No. 28 Oklahoma (2-1).
The Lady Tigers will take on Iowa on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (CT) at the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion before playing host OU on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (CT).
Iowa comes into the weekend after posting 7-0 victories over Nebraska-Omaha and Northern Iowa at home. The Hawkeyes have one player in the ITA singles rankings in No. 56 Ruth Seaborne, who is 8-2 on the season.
The Sooners sport a veteran roster with four seniors on the team, led by No. 106 Hermon Brhane. The senior duo of Whitney Ritchie and Mia Lancaster are ranked No. 50 in doubles. OU opened the spring with a 7-0 win over No. 60 North Texas in Norman. Last week, the Sooners participated in the ITA Kick-Off weekend where they posted a 4-0 victory over No. 35 Ole Miss before falling to No. 12 Alabama, 4-3, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
"We look forward to continuing our growth as a team. We are going for it all this year and every match is an opportunity to get a little better," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "We are not where we want to be right now, but we believe we are going to get there and we trust the path we are on. Oklahoma and Iowa will be a great challenge, and we will embrace it."
Memphis began its dual season last week in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, defeating No. 39 VCU, 4-2, before falling 4-1 to the defending national indoor champions and No. 3 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Freshman Anki Wind captured American Athletic Conference player of the week honors after posting a 3-0 mark to begin the spring. The highlight of the weekend for Wind was defeating UNC's No. 118 Ashley Dai, 7-6, 6-1, to record Memphis' lone point against the Tar Heels.
