Stefanie Mikesz Tabbed The American Women's Tennis Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Memphis women's tennis senior Stefanie Mikesz was selected as the American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. This is the third-straight week a Lady Tiger has earned the honor.
Mikesz posted a 4-0 mark this past weekend for the Lady Tigers, including two wins over ranked opponents in singles play.
The Bardowick, Germany native began the weekend by recording a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) win at No. 1 singles over Iowa's No. 56 Ruth Seaborne that clinched the match and helped Memphis to a 4-0 victory over the Hawkeyes. Mikesz continued her strong play Sunday with a 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory over Oklahoma's No. 106 Hermon Brhane to record Memphis' lone point in a 4-1 loss to No. 28 Oklahoma. In doubles, Mikesz teamed with freshman Anki Wind to post two 6-3 victories at No. 2.
On the season, Mikesz is now 10-4 in singles and 13-3 in doubles. With her wins this past weekend, Mikesz climbed higher in the school record books. She is now fifth in career doubles wins (79) and eighth in career singles victories (73) at Memphis.
Memphis opens its home slate this Friday when the Lady Tigers host Murray State at 3:45 p.m. (CT) followed by a match against Chattanooga at 7 p.m. at Memphis University School's new indoor facility.
