Murdock to Compete at Cellular South Cup Tonight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis women's tennis netter Ashley Murdock will partake in the 2010 Cellular South Cup, part of the Sony Ericcson Women's Tennis Association Tour.
Murdock will face-off with Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden tonight at the grandstand court at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The match will begin no earlier than 4 p.m. (CST), with the definitive start time depending on the matches before it. Arvidsson comes into the tournament ranked 105th in the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings.
The Cellular South Cup has been an annual WTA tour stop at The Racquet Club of Memphis since 2002. The Cellular South Cup will begin today and includes 12 women's tennis netters rated in the top 100 of the latest Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings including 16th-ranked, who has won three grand slams in her career including the 2008 Australian Open, 2006 US Open and 2004 Wimbledon.
Murdock, a back-to-back All-C-USA selection, is coming off an upset of 87th-ranked Stephanie Kent of Yale last weekend. The senior from Memphis, Tenn., currently has a 5-4 record in singles, while playing exclusively at the No. 1 position.
Also this weekend, the Lady Tigers will take on Samford and Austin Peay on Sat., Jan. 13. The match with Samford will begin at 9 a.m., at Wellworx Sporting Club at 6161 Shelby Oaks Drive in East Memphis. The Lady Tigers will take on Austin Peay at 6 p.m., at the University Club of Memphis, located at 1346 Central Avenue.
