MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis women's tennis players Courtney Collins and Marjorie Ondeck were granted wild card bids to the 2010 Cellular South Cup women's tennis doubles draw on Sunday at The Racquet Club of Memphis. The pair of Lady Tigers will take on the duo of Vania King and Michaella Krajicek, the match is expected to commence between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., on Sun., Feb. 14 on the main stadium court at The Racquet Club of Memphis. "The Memphis tennis program cannot thank The Racquet Club of Memphis and tournament director Peter Lebedevs enough," said Memphis head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "They have been extremely hospitable to our programs the last few months, making the transition of our programs to The Racquet Club a fantastic experience. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity he has given Ashley (Murdock), Marjorie (Ondeck) and Courtney (Collins). It is a lifelong memory for them and we hope the Tiger fans will come out from all over the city to support our players in this incredible event at The Racquet Club of Memphis." Murdock, a senior for the Lady Tigers, played a singles match with Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden on Saturday afternoon at The Racquet Club. The St. Agnes product played a competitive match but Arvidsson, the 2006 Cellular South Cup tournament singles champion in 2006, was too much for Murdock, defeating her 6-2, 6-2. Arvidsson is currently ranked as the 105th-best player on the Sony Ericsson Women's Tennis Association Tour. The two doubles foes for Lady Tigers' Ondeck and Collins, will play for the first time together during the 2010 season. King, a native of Monterey Park, Calif., advanced to the Round of 32 of the Australian Open with Anna-Lena Groenfeld. King and Groenfeld advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw at the Sydney tournament in January.
Krajicek, a product of Delft, The Netherland, advanced to the finals of the 2009 Cellular South Cup with Yuliana Fedak. The pair fell to Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka, 6-1, 7-6, in the final. Collins, a freshman from Fulton, Miss., and Ondeck, a senior from Monroe, Conn., have not played together so far during the 2010 spring dual season. Collins and Kelly Gray are currently 5-2 in doubles, while Ondeck and Murdock are 3-4 this season.
