Women's Tennis Gets Second Straight Win at UT-Chattanooga, 6-1
Feb. 14, 2003 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team (2-2) posted its second straight win of the season to pull back to .500 with a 6-1 victory at UT-Chattanooga. Memphis started the day off by taking the doubles point to go up 1-0 early. The No. 56 ranked team of Sabrina Lindemann and Monica Gonzalez-Gordo posted their first No. 1 doubles win of the season, 8-0, over the team of Catherine Allen and Saskia van Velze. The Lady Tigers No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams closed out the doubles portion with a pair of 8-3 wins to go up early. Lindemann then posted her first No. 1 singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory of Cynthia Oulevay. Fellow senior Gonzalez-Gordo stretched the Lady Tiger lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, but UT-Chattanooga looked to start a comeback when UT-Chattanooga junior Charlotte Goude posted her first singles win of the season over Memphis' Sumitra Rao, 6-4, 6-0. But the Lady Tiger newcomers held off the Lady Mocs, picking up straight set victories at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles to give the Lady Tigers their second straight win after falling at Mississippi State and Ole Miss to start the season. Memphis will face its second nationally-ranked opponent in five matches when they square off against No. 75 Georgia State, Saturday, at UT-Chattanooga. The Lady Tigers will then start back for Memphis, stopping to face Tennessee Tech in a non-conference clash, Sunday.
