Courtney Collins to Play in US National Indoor Tennis Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis senior netter Courtney Collins received a wild card to play in the main draw of the US National Indoor Tennis Championships tonight at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Collins will take the court immediately after the 7 p.m. mixed doubles championship match between Lindsay Davenport and Mark Philippoussis vs. Victoria Duval and Sam Querrey on the Stadium Court. Collins will face No. 8 seed Kristina Mladenovic of France. Mladenovic, age 19, is the 63rd-ranked player in the world. Collins, currently fifth in the school record books in career singles wins, has posted a 5-3 mark this spring with all three losses coming to ranked opponents. Collins has recorded two upsets in the early season with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over No.15 Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State and a 6-3, 6-2 victory yesterday against No. 37 Nicole Bartnik of Columbia. Last month, Collins was named Conference USA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after defeating Niedermayerova and picking up two more victories during the week.
