Memphis, Tenn.-- - The University of Memphis (7-8, 1-0) women's tennis team earned its first win in C-USA play with a 6-3 victory over Saint Louis at the HPER courts, Friday.

Memphis won the top four singles matches, including a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (5) victory at No. 4 singles by freshman Sumitra Rao. Rao, who just joined the Lady Tigers in January, leads the team with 12 wins and with a .750 winning percentage (12-4).

Freshman Sabrina Lindemann continues to play well, blanking Jayasree Kuruvilla, 6-1, 6-0. The win was Lindemann's 11th this season, her eighth at the No. 2 singles spot.

Junior Betsy Card also battled to win her opening set 7-5, before closing the win 6-2 in the second.

The Lady Tigers won two of the three doubles matches played, with the SLU tandem of Julie Siemers and Jayasree Kuruvilla preventing a sweep with a 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles.

The conference clashes continue Saturday when Memphis faces DePaul University at 9 a.m. while Saint Louis plays Southern Miss. Memphis will finish its conference matches against Southern Miss at 2 p.m., Saturday.
