MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis women's tennis team will play host to conference rival UAB and in state foe Middle Tennessee this weekend at the University of Memphis Tennis Courts. The Lady Tigers and Blazers will begin their match at 2 p.m., on Friday. Memphis and Middle Tennessee's match will commence at 2 p.m., on Saturday.

The match will serve as the final home match for the four Lady Tiger seniors, Amanda Brown, Ashley Murdock, Marjorie Ondeck and Dara Toulch.

Amanda Brown, a native of Whitby, Ontario, comes into the weekend with a 7-13 singles record while competing at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions for the Lady Tigers during the 2009-10 season. In doubles, Brown has teamed with Andrea Arques-Garcia, a freshman from Alicante, Spain, for a 3-10 mark at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

Ashley Murdock leads all Memphis singles netters with a record of 14-10 at No. 1 singles during her senior season. The product of St. Agnes Academy in Memphis has picked up 10 or more singles victories in each of her three seasons at the U of M since transferring back to her hometown after competing at LSU to begin her collegiate career. In doubles, Murdock has teamed with Ondeck for a 9-12 mark at the No. 1 position.

Marjorie Ondeck, who came to Memphis from Monroe, Conn., has an 8-11 singles record at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions during her senior year.

 

 

Dara Toulch, a native of Montreal, Quebec, owns a 3-5 singles record during the 2010 season. Toulch is 3-6 in doubles on the year.

The Lady Tigers have an overall record of 10-14 entering the weekend's matches after picking up two victories on Wednesday with a 6-0 win over Tennessee Tech and a 4-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe.

UAB comes into Friday's dual with an overall mark of 9-7 on the year. The Blazers are led by Evelien Strijker at the No. 1 singles position. The junior from Hoogeveen, Netherlands, is 6-6 at the No. 1 position during the 2010 season.

At No. 2 singles, Paula Alvarez, a sophomore from Pontevedra, Spain, has an overall mark of 6-5 on the year.

In doubles, the No. 1 pair or Giorgia Romeo and Strijker come into the match with an 8-1 mark on the year.

Middle Tennessee enters the weekend with an 8-5 record. The Blue Raiders are coming off of two wins over C-USA opponents last weekend after picking up a 5-2 win over UAB and a 4-0 win over UTEP.

Middle Tennessee is led in singles by Carla Nava. The sophomore transfer from Lamar is 6-5 at the No. 1 position.

At No. 2 singles, Natalia Araya, a senior from Mississauga, Ontario, comes in with a 6-6 mark.

In doubles, the Blue Raiders are led by the No. 1 pair of Marietta Bigus and Araya. The duo is 6-6 on the 2010 season.
