Women's Tennis Seeded Ninth for C-USA Championships
April 12, 2004
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team (10-11, 3-2 C-USA) has earned a No. 9 seed for the upcoming Conference USA Women's Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Louisville, beginning Thursday.
Memphis will face No. 8 seed USF at 3 p.m., Thursday in the final pair of matches on opening day. The winner of the Memphis/USF match will face No. 2 seed TCU at 3 p.m., Friday, while the loser will fall into the back draw and will play Friday at 6 p.m.
"I'm pleased with our seeding," Lady Tiger Head Coach Charlotte Peterson said. "I thought we finished better this year than I had counted on and we are really looking forward to a competitive match in the tournament. I don't know much about USF this year, but we are ready to play any opponent we face and to give them a competitive match."
Memphis last faced USF last season. The Lady Tigers finished tied for fifth at last year's C-USA Tournament, downing Marquette 4-3 in the fifth-place match when then-freshman Kristin Noble (Germantown, Tenn.) downed her opponent at No. 6 singles. That fifth-place finish was the highest Lady Tiger finish since 1994-95, when they finished fourth in the Great Midwest Conference tournament.
The Lady Tigers will cap the regular season with a home match, Monday, against Arkansas State beginning at 3:30. That match has been pushed inside due to rain.
