Women's Tennis to Face UCF in C-USA Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team will open its 2008 run in the Conference USA tournament as the No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed UCF, Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m.
That match is a rematch of a contest played just two weeks ago, where UCF defeated Memphis, 4-0, on the second day of a three-match, C-USA home stand. The winner of the Memphis/UCF match will face No. 2 seeded Marshall on Friday at 2 p.m., while the losing team will finish in a tie for ninth place in the league standings.
Tulsa is the top seed for the tournament, followed by Marshall, Rice and SMU. All of the top four seeds receive a first round bye in the draw, and will begin play on Friday. Houston is the No. 6 seed, while UCF is No. 7. East Carolina and UAB at the No. 8 and 9 seeds and will face one another in the first match of the tournament. Memphis is the No. 10 seed and UTEP rounds out the tournament field at No. 11.
The Conference USA women's tennis championships will be hosted by the University of Houston, beginning on Thursday and running through Sunday. The winner will receive a bid in to the 2008 NCAA Championships. The tournament is being hosted at the John E. Hoff Courts. Admission to the tournament is free.
