Women's Tennis Earns No. 2 Seed for The American Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team will enter this week's American Athletic Conference Championships as the No. 2 seed, the league announced Monday afternoon. The Lady Tigers will face either No. 7 Temple or No. 10 UCF in a 9 a.m. (ET) quarterfinal match Friday at the USF Varsity Courts in Tampa, Fla.
Houston claimed the top seed in the tournament while host USF is the No. 3 seed. The Cougars were ranked No. 27 in last week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. Memphis came in at No. 38 while USF was right behind at No. 40 in the country. No. 4 seed Louisville is the other team in the conference that is ranked among the top-75 teams at No. 55. This week's rankings will be released Tuesday.
Tournament play begins Thursday with the Temple/UCF match and No. 8 Cincinnati/No. 9 UConn at 9 a.m. Houston and Memphis will both play in 9 a.m. matches Friday while No. 4 Louisville/No. 5 Rutgers and No. 6 SMU/No. 3 USF will take the courts at noon.
The semifinal matches will be held at noon Saturday while the championship match will take place Sunday at 10 a.m. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
