Collins, Welcher Net C-USA All-Academic Team Honors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Conference USA office in Irving, Texas, announced on Wednesday the selection of Memphis' Courtney Collins and Tiffany Welcher to the 2012 C-USA Tennis All-Academic Team. The duo's selection to the All-Academic team demonstrates their success both on and off the court at the U of M. Collins, the only player to repeat as a selection to the All-Academic team, boasts a 3.86 GPA in interdisciplinary studies. Ranked No. 33 in singles, Collins is 15-2 on the season with a 4-1 record against opponents ranked in the top 70 of the ITA standings. The Fulton, Miss., native is 13-4 in doubles this season. Collins has also received the C-USA Academic Medal and is a member of the C-USA Honor Roll. Welcher joins Collins on the All-Academic team, making Memphis the only school to place multiple members on the women's team. As a graduate student in liberal studies, Welcher holds a 3.66 GPA. The Clarksville, Ind., native is 13-4 in singles action and 14-4 in doubles. Welcher has also been named to the C-USA Honor Roll. As a team, Memphis is 15-4 this year and ranked 64th in the nation. The fourth-seeded Tigers will play the winner of No. 5 Marshall and No. 12 UTEP at 10 a.m. (CT) on Friday in the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship. The U of M is hosting the championship at the Dunavant-Wellford Tennis Center on the campus of the Memphis University School.
