INDIANAPOLIS -The University of Memphis women's tennis team will be making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the Lady Tigers learned this afternoon when the NCAA unveiled the 64-team field.

Memphis enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the Tuscaloosa Regional, and will face No. 2 Florida State (16-9) on Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m. CT at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium. No. 1 seed Alabama (19-5) is the No. 9 overall seed in the tournament, and will take on Southland Conference champion Northwestern State (14-7) in the first round on Friday at 1 p.m.

Memphis and Florida State are two of the 33 teams receiving an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. The 30th-ranked Seminoles advanced to the ACC Tournament Championship as No. 7 seed with upset wins over No. 2 Clemson, 4-3, and No. 3 Virginia, 4-3, before falling to No. 4 Miami (Fla.), 4-1, in the finals.

Memphis, ranked No. 34 in the ITA's latest poll, posted a 17-6 record this season with five wins over ranked opponents, including victories over top-25 Virginia and Notre Dame. The Lady Tigers made their second-straight appearance in the Conference USA semifinals before falling to No. 24 Tulsa, 4-3, on Apr. 20 in Houston, Texas.

Florida State is 2-0 all-time over Memphis with those matches being played in 1985 and 1987.

The winner from the first round matches in Tuscaloosa will face each other Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. CT for a chance to advance to the NCAA Round of 16 on May 17 in Urbana, Ill.
