May 22, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The NCAA has released the 2012 Women's Tennis Singles Championship schedule and Memphis' Courtney Collins will play No. 4-seed Robin Anderson from UCLA in her opening match. Collins and Anderson are scheduled for a 5 p.m. (ET) start on Wednesday in Athens, Ga., the site of the championships. Collins finished the year with a 27-6 record, including a 15-3 mark in dual meets, and is currently ranked No. 33 in the ITA standings. She earned the program's first berth in the NCAA Championships after earning Conference USA's automatic bid as the highest-ranked player in the conference. "Courtney has played really well against opponents ranked higher than her this year," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "(Robin) Anderson is a very good player and this a great opportunity for Courtney to showcase her talent." Collins is 4-2 against women in the 64-person field, with the most notable win coming against No. 9 Chelsey Gullickson of 6th-ranked Georgia. Gullickson, the No. 8 seed of the tournament, won the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championship. Anderson is the tournament's four-seed and holds a 34-8 record, including 21-2 in dual meets this spring. Anderson and the UCLA Bruins are set to play Florida in the team championships today at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Live stats and a video stream of the championships are provided on the 2012 Tennis Championships page hosted by the University of Georgia.
