Lindemann and Gonzalez-Gordo Earn Academic All-District Honors
May 27, 2003 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Senior women's tennis players Sabrina Lindemann and Monica Gonzalez-Gordo continue to add to their trophy cases as both players were named Third Team Verizon Academic All-District IV in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Both players were named second team All-Conference USA earlier this spring after helping the Lady Tiger tennis team write some program history this past spring. Memphis' 17-7 record marked its eighth-highest single season win total in the program's history, and the No. 1 doubles duo of Lindemann and Gonzalez-Gordo became the program's first-ever doubles team to earn a national ranking after a fall season that saw them win two doubles championships. Lindemann, who was also named the recipient of the U of M top female-student athlete GPA award and the Elma Roane Award, given to Memphis' top female-student athlete, graduated with a bachelor's degree in sports management in just three years. Also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Lindemann is currently pursuing her master's degree in business at The U of M. Gonzalez-Gordo was one of five Tiger student-athletes to earn an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. Capping her two-year Lady Tiger career, the Barcelona, Spain, native is currently completing her degree in mechanical engineering at The U of M.
The Lady Tiger tennis team tied for fifth overall at the recent C-USA Championships.
