Memphis Women's Tennis Netter Crowned Champion at Midwest Women's Open Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Memphis women's tennis senior-to-be Ashley Murdock was crowned the champion of the Midwest Women's Open Championship at the Pearson Open Championship in Indianapolis, Ind., on June 28th. Murdock, the No. 1 singles player for the Memphis women's tennis team, defeated Toledo, Ohio native Zorana George for the singles crown. On her way to the title, Murdock, the No. 3 seed in the tournament field, defeated Michelle Sammons, the No. 2 seed, 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals, Mary Beth Wilson, 6-3, 6-2, and Adrienne Markison, 6-1, 6-1. Sammons is currently the No. 1 singles player for the Purdue Boilermakers. Murdock finished her junior season at Memphis earning her second-straight selection to the second team of the All-C-USA team. Murdock won 15 singles matches and lost 10 last season for coach Lee Taylor Walker's squad.
