Women's Tennis Earns Sixth Straight ITA All-Academic Honor
Aug. 11, 2006 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - For the sixth straight year, the Lady Tiger tennis program was on the list of teams named All-Academic award winners by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) it was announced, Friday. In addition to the team's sixth award, three Lady Tigers were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, led the program's first-time four-time award winner, Andrea Feichtinger. In order to be named an ITA All-Academic team, the team GPA had to be a 3.2 or higher. The Lady Tigers were one of two Conference USA schools to earn the ITA honor, joining Rice as the only league schools on the list. In all, 92 women's programs in NCAA Division I tennis were named to the list. Senior Andrea Feichtinger also made some school history, becoming the first-ever Lady Tiger to win four ITA Scholar-Athlete awards. Feichtinger, who came to Memphis from her native Austria, completed both her bachelor's and master's degrees in four seasons at Memphis. Teammates Alex Tjioe and Christina Wieser also were named multiple-time award winners, as each earned her second honors following her junior season. The Lady Tigers will open their fall season at UALR, Sept. 22-24th.
