MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's and women's tennis squads placed six individuals on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic team, as was announced earlier this month. Men's tennis players Benedikt Fischer, Michael Gaerthoeffner and K.C. Griffin, along with women's tennis netters Kristin Chamberlain, Sarah Irvin, Robyn Jones and Dara Toulch.
This is the second year in a row that Fischer and Gaerthoeffner have received the honor. Griffin, a freshman from Millington, Tenn., garnered the honor for the first time. Toulch was honored as an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the third year in a row. Chamberlain garnered the accolade for a second consecutive year. Irvin and Jones were both freshman for the Lady Tigers last season.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
