MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis women's tennis team is set to play in two fall tournaments this weekend. Marjorie Ondeck and Ashley Murdock, a Second Team All-C-USA honoree in her first season at the U of M after transferring from LSU, will compete at the William and Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. The other four Lady Tigers will head to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Steve Baras Fall Classic.

"This weekend could really set the tone for our entire season," said Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker. "Marj and Ashley will have opportunities against some nationally ranked opponents at William and Mary. They are playing great now and looking to break into the national spotlight. Our four that competed last weekend in Montgomery will look to apply what was learned and go up another level in their play in Chattanooga."

The tournament field in Williamburg will include seven ranked competitors, including the nation's No. 1 singles player, Aurelija Miseviciute of Arkansas. The native of Klaipeda, Lithuania, was 25-5 last season for the Razorbacks.

In the first round of action for the Tigers, Ashley Murdock will face 94th-ranked Katarina Zoricic of William and Mary. The Tribe of William and Mary, finished last season ranked No. 21 in the nation. Zoricic finished the 2008 season with a 14-9 singles record. Murdock posted a mark of 15-4 for the Lady Tigers last season.

Also in first round action at the William and Mary Invitational, Marjorie Ondeck, a junior from Monroe, Conn., will face Erin Clark of Richmond. Ondeck was 11-7 in singles play last season. Her opponent, Clark notched a record of 10-7 for the Spiders in 2008.

 

 

First round draws in the Steve Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga will pit Lindsay Wiseman against Sabrina Smyers. Wiseman was 1-2 in the singles play last weekend at the Blue and Gray Invitational in Montgomery, Ala.

The Tigers' Amanda Brown will face off with Taylor Coffey, a freshman for Middle Tennessee. Brown was also 1-2 at the Blue and Gray Invitational in Montgomery, Ala.

Senior Kristin Chamberlain is set to take on Eloah Lopes of Jacksonville State. Lopes was 13-9 last season.

Dara Toulch, a sophomore from , will face Ernestine Koornhof of UT-Martin in the first round of competition.
