MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The Memphis women's tennis program concluded its first tournament of the 2010 fall season on Sunday at the String `n Swing Memphis Collegiate Invitational where the host team found themselves on the winning and losing end in singles play throughout the day.

Courtney Collins, a sophomore from Fulton, Miss., was declared the winner of her singles draw when Laura Van de Stroet of Ole Miss defaulted due to injury, marking the second time in the tournament Collins advanced without play.

After a loss in her first match of the weekend on Friday, sophomore Kelly Gray bounced back to win her final two matches--upending Lauren White of Abilene Christian University in a tight match on Saturday, 7-5 (3), 6-3 and Tina Odjanic of Arkansas State University, 6-2, 6-2, in the consolation championship on Sunday.

Sophomore Andrea Arques-Garcia was the last Lady Tiger to play on Sunday and the native of Alicante, Spain, closed out the weekend falling to ASU's Biljana Miloshevska, 6-1, 6-2.

Following wins in her first two matches, freshman Lady Tiger Sarah Witkowski of Peachtree City, Ga., fell in the main draw final of her flight to Carolin Caire of Evansville, 6-1, 6-4.

The tandem of Collins and Witkowski fought hard on Saturday in the finals of their doubles flight, but the pair was unable to pull out the win. The Memphis netters fell to Georgia State's Tereza Lerova and Kir Kemp, 9-7.

The Lady Tigers will be back on the courts Sept. 24-26, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Alabama Crimson Tide Invite.
