Women's Netters Hit the Road for 23rd Roberta Alison Fall Classic
2010 Roberta Alison Fall Classic Draws Sept. 23, 2010 MEMPHIS, Tenn.--The U of M women's tennis program heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Thursday for the 23rd Roberta Alison Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama. This is the Lady Tigers' second fall tournament and first time on the road since opening the season last weekend at home at The Racquet Club of Memphis. In addition to the Crimson Tide and Lady Tigers, eight other teams will make up the field: Baylor, Georgia State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Samford, Tulane, UAB and UT Martin. Matches will start at 9 a.m. CST on Friday and will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 26. Memphis netters expected to participate this weekend are sophomores Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray, as well as freshmen Stefanie Mikesz and Sarah Witkowski. Collins won her draw at the Memphis Collegiate Invitational last weekend, but only took to the courts for one match--where she defeated Anatasia Erofeeva of Tulsa, 6-2, 6-4--since two opponents defaulted. Gray looks to continue her win streak after victories in her final two matches last weekend, where she knocked off Lauren White of Abilene Christian University 7-5 (3), 6-3 and Tina Odjanic of Arkansas State University, 6-2, 6-2. Hoping to get back on the right track is Witkowski, who fell to Carolin Caire of Evansville, 6-1, 6-4, in the draw finals after wins in her first two matches ever as a Lady Tiger. The Roberta Alison Fall Classic marks the first time Mikesz, a native of Bardowick, Germany, will compete wearing the Blue and Gray.
