Memphis Travel to Ole Miss Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Tigers women's tennis squad is ready to hit the road for the 2008 Ole Miss Fall Classic from Oct. 10 to Oct. 12 at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss. Competitors from SEC-affiliated schools such as Arkansas and Mississippi State and Ole Miss will participate in the tournament. Memphis, Arkansas State, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, South Alabama and Division II 2008 National Champion Armstrong State. Play will begin with doubles competition starting on Friday at 9 a.m.
"I could not be prouder of the girls preparation these past two weeks," said Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker. "This will be a fun weekend with some solid performances and results."
The tournament marks the U of M's fifth fall tournament. Robyn Jones, the Tigers' freshman from Baton Rouge, La., won her flight in Memphis' last tournament at the Roberta Alison Fall Invite in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The tournament was Jones' first event as a member of the Memphis women's tennis team.
Memphis was 12-9 in singles matches at the Roberta Alison Fall Invite. Amanda Brown and Lindsey Wiseman both won matches over foes they lost to last year. Brown defeated Katie Barnhill of Tennessee Tech, 6-3, 6-0. Wiseman, a sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., won 6-1, 6-3, over Alexis Webb of Murray State.
Ashley Murdock, a Second Team All-C-USA honoree for the Tigers last season enters this weekend's tournament with a fall record of 4-3 with defeats over opponents from Samford, Mississippi State, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio State. Murdock was 15-4 for Memphis last season in singles play.
Dara Toulch comes into this weekend with a mark of 6-4. Toulch has beaten competition from Mississippi State, Charlote, Kennesaw State, Chattanooga and UT-Martin.
The Lady Tigers' next time out to the courts will be at the ITA Southeast Regional in Winston Salem, N.C.
