Lindemann Draws Top Seed for Middle Tennessee State Tourney

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis graduate student Sabrina Lindemann (Linz, Austria) is the top-seeded singles player in the Flight A draw for the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational, scheduled to begin Friday.

Lindemann, who is 6-0 so far in the fall season, will face Belmont's Alba Garcia at 9 a.m., Friday, to begin her tournament schedule. Fellow senior Monica Gonzalez-Gordo (Barcelona, Spain) is also in the A singles bracket. Gonzalez-Gordo will face Zarinah Brown from Austin Peay at 9 a.m., Friday, in her opening match of the tournament.

Lady Tiger senior Sumitra Rao is Memphis' only entry in the B singles bracket. Rao will also begin play at 9 a.m., Friday, when she squares off with Lipscomb's Julie McDonald.

The Flight C singles bracket features a pair of Lady Tigers. Sophomore Marlene Dirnsdorfer, one of three Lady Tigers to still be undefeated in the fall, will begin her tournament schedule at 10 a.m., Friday, against Jacksonville State's Jessica Gomez. Fellow Austrian Viktoria Gruber will begin her schedule of play at 11 a.m., Friday, against Samantha Liu, from fellow C-USA member Cincinnati.

Andrea Feichtinger has also drawn a C-USA opponent for her opening round. The Austrian native will square off with Jennifer Sibille from Southern Miss, while freshman Kristin Noble faces Burgandy Moss from Belmont beginning at 11:30 a.m. Rebecca Garner wraps out the Lady Tiger contingent. Garner will face Kelli Bridges from Austin Peay in the E singles bracket beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The Lady Tigers will also play doubles at the tournament. The top-seeded team of Lindemann-Gordo, ranked No. 31 in the country, received a first-round bye and will play the winner of the Bowman/Baldwin (Lipscomb) and Foster/Sadofsky (USM), match, Saturday. Memphis will try to advance two doubles teams to the B doubles title game. The team of Rao/Dirnstorfer, currently 2-0 on the season, will face the team of Dushner/Benhaim from Jacksonville State at 4 p.m., Friday, as the team of Gruber/Feichtinger faces C-USA opponents Ulrich/McClure.

The duo of Noble/Garner will begin their doubles play at 4:30 p.m., Friday, against the duo of Moss/Kelsey from Belmont.

The Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational features 14 Division I women's tennis teams, including Tennessee-based opponents Austin Peay, Belmont, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Memphis and UT-Martin. Ball State, Jacksonville State, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, UAB, Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Miss will also participate in the tournament.
