MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis women's tennis team will compete in its first home tournament of the 2012-13 season this weekend with the Memphis Invitational, Oct. 12-14. Joining the Lady Tigers at The Racquet Club of Memphis will be Drake, Loyola Marymount and UT Martin.

Memphis will be competing together for the first time this season as freshmen Caroline Wegner and Skylar Kuykendall played in the Amelia Island 10k while seniors Tiffany Welcher and Kelly Gray and sophomore Alyssa Hibberd joined Wegner at the ITA All-American Championships last week.

"It's going to be nice to see our team compete together at the same time," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "Our first two tournaments we only saw action from a few of our players. This week we are still without Courtney (Collins) and Stefanie (Mikesz), but we will have three returners and three freshmen all fighting out there together next to each other. I know they are excited to play some matches and the entire coaching staff is excited to watch them compete."

On Friday, Memphis will compete in doubles against Loyola Marymount and UT Martin beginning at 2:30 p.m. Singles play for the Lady Tigers will begin Saturday as Memphis goes up against LMU at 10:30 a.m. before facing Drake at 1:15 p.m. The Lady Tigers close out the day with doubles action against UT Martin at 3:15 p.m. Memphis hits the court Sunday to play Drake in doubles at 11:15 a.m. before ending the tournament with singles play against UT Martin at 1:15 p.m.

"I'm looking for our team to settle into the fall season and build some confidence before we go play the regional championships the following week," Walker said. "I want us to build confidence in the areas we can control - decision-making and intensity. Our team has the talent and shots to be successful in any and every tournament we play, but relying on shots does not win championships and help one reach their maximum potential. We have to continue to build each of our player's mental and emotional toughness, and that's been our focus in meetings and practices the past few days."

After the Memphis Invitational, the Lady Tigers will head north for the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in West Lafayette, Ind., from Oct. 18-21. Complete results from the Memphis Invitational will be posted on GoTigersGo.com at the conclusion of each day.
