TOURNAMENT CENTRAL: USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - For the second time in three years, the University of Memphis women's tennis team will serve as host of the USTA/TA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, which will be held at The Racquet Club of Memphis, Oct. 18-22. Admission is free to the event.
A total of 88 singles players and 44 doubles teams will vie for the chance to advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, Nov. 7-10, at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
The qualifying draws for singles and doubles will take place Friday beginning at 8 a.m. while the main draws will start Saturday. Semifinal matches in singles begin at 3 p.m. (CT) Monday while the final is slated for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. In doubles, semifinal action takes place Monday at 6:30 p.m. with the championship match set for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Back draws for doubles are set to begin Saturday at 5:30 p.m. while singles start Sunday at 11 a.m.
Stefanie Mikesz will begin the regional for Memphis in the singles qualifying draw as she takes on Chattanooga's Katie Polk on Friday morning. The rest of the Lady Tigers will begin competition Saturday in the main draw for singles and doubles. The Lady Tigers have four players among the top-16 seeds - Liza Tymchenko (6), Skylar Kuykendall (9), Alyssa Hibberd (10) and Caroline Wegner (15). Kuykendall, Hibberd and Anki Wind will await their opponent from the eight that will advance from the qualifying draw. Tymchenko will face Eastern Kentucky's Amandine Faouzi in the first round while Marta Morga takes on Alix Thurman of Miami (OH). Wegner begins her run against Middle Tennessee's Jesse Grace in the first round.
In doubles, Hibberd and Wegner come in as the region's No. 6 seed in doubles. They face Xavier's Alex Brinker and Sydney Liggins to begin the 32-team main draw. At the top of the draw, Wind and Mikesz take on the No. 8 seed pair of Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff and Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky while Kuykendall and Morga battle Austin Peay's Andra Cornea and Ornella Di Salvo.
The Lady Tigers last hosted the regional championships in 2011 as the duo of Hibberd and Tiffany Welcher advanced to the doubles final before falling to the region's No. 6 seed team of Natalie Pluskota and Kata Szekely from Tennessee. In singles, Memphis was also successful with three players advancing to the quarterfinals and Courtney Collins making the semifinals.
Last season, Memphis also posted strong results with Hibberd and Welcher making a run to the semifinals in doubles, and Welcher advancing to the quarterfinals in singles play. In the consolation draw, Tymchenko was named co-champion with Purdue's Daniela Vidal by racking up three-straight wins to earn the honor.
