MEMPHIS, Tenn. -After a strong outing at the Memphis Invitational last weekend, the Memphis women's tennis team looks to continue its hot streak Friday through Monday at the USTA ITA Ohio Valley Regional in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Lady Tigers will be joined by 17 other teams from the states of Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Ohio this week at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the campus of Purdue University. The qualifying draws will begin today while the main draws, which include seven Lady Tigers, will start Friday morning. Friday's competition will include two rounds of doubles and one round of singles play.

"I'm looking forward to watching our team compete against the best in the region," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "Last year we had the most wins of any team in the tournament, but we did not capture either the singles or the doubles titles. This year, we hope to have the strongest team performance as well as bring home the singles and doubles titles. We certainly have the ability to and last weekend should have everyone in a confident frame of mind."

The No. 31 duo of senior Tiffany Welcher and sophomore Alyssa Hibberd will start the competition off for Memphis at 8 a.m., facing Alex Bastock and Amy Nini of Wright State. Welcher and Hibberd enter the regional as the No. 2 seed, and advanced all the way to the championship last year before falling to the Tennessee team of Natalie Pluskota and Kata Szekely.

Also in doubles action will be senior Kelly Gray and junior Stefanie Mikesz, who is making her fall debut after suffering from an injury last month. The two will go up against the No. 8 seed of Julia Fellerhoff and Rebecca Shine from Louisville at 10:30 a.m. The freshmen duo of Skylar Kuykendall and Liza Tymchenko will await their opponent, which will come from the qualifying draw. The two are slated to begin their match at 9:30 a.m.

In singles play, six Lady Tigers will be in action as Welcher is the No. 5 seed in the draw, facing Mandy Brown of Louisville at 8:15 p.m. Hibberd, seeded No. 12, will play Kentucky's Khristina Blajketvitch at 3 p.m. in the first round, while freshman Caroline Wegner will play Alexa Flynn of UT Chattanooga at 7 p.m. Gray, who advanced to the back draw championship last season, will face Kristina Labeja of Eastern Kentucky at 3:45 p.m. Kuykendall and Tymchenko both face Vanderbilt opponents in the first round as Kuykendall goes up against Georgina Sellyn at 5:45 p.m., and Tymchenko plays No. 11 Ashleigh Antal at 4:45 p.m.

Results from the day will be posted on the Memphis Women's Tennis Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MemphisWomensTennis and on Twitter @UofMTennis.
