Senior Christina Ladyman Wins No. 1 Singles Title

Memphis, Tenn. -- - Senior Christina Ladyman won the No. 1 singles title at the University of Memphis/Varsity Pro Shop Invitational, Sunday. Ladyman, who has now appeared in the finals in two of the three tournaments the Lady Tigers have competed in, downed Southwest Missouri's Ia Zozrashvili, 6-2, 6-2, to capture the singles crown.

Saint Louis' Julie Siemers claimed the consolation crown with a 6-3, 0-6, 10-4 win over UALR's Olga Rajniak. Siemers' only loss was to Ladyman in the second round of the tournament.

UALR claimed the No. 2 singles title when Kelly Bucewicz downed Southwest Missouri's Cassandra Godfrey, 6-0, 6-3. Murray State's Erica Heshelman claimed the consolation title with a 6-3, 5-7, 10-3 win over Jessica St. John from Austin Peay State.

Arkansas State got into the championship mood when Saumya Rana won the No. 3 singles title with her 6-0, 4-6, 10-5 win over Brooke Hoener from the University of Evansville. Saint Louis' claimed its second consolation crown when senior Jayasree Kuruvilla defeated APSU's Celeste Tompkins, 6-3, 6-1.

The No. 4 singles title went to UALR's Moutserrate Flores. Flores defeated SLU's Ingrid Habony, 6-3, 6-2, in the championship final, while Evansville's Natalie Tessier won the consolation championship with her 6-3, 6-0 win over APSU's Zarinah Brown (Memphis, Tenn.).

Southwest Missouri claimed the No. 5 singles title with Marta Rubina's 6-3, 6-1 win over Evansville's Rachel Tessier. UT-Martin's Olivia Shipley (Olive Branch, Miss.) won the consolation title with her 6-3, 6-7, 10-3 win over Murray State's Annette Steen.

MSU claimed its first singles crown when sophomore Cheryl Graham defeated UT-Martin's Kelly Anderson, 6-0, 6-0 in the championship of the No. 6 singles. Austin Peay's Jessie Mills won the consolation championship with her 6-2, 6-3 win over Memphis' Rebecca Garner.

The No. 7 championship match was still underway at 12:00 (CT). The No. 7 bracket consolation was won by Evansville's Rhonda Place. Place defeated Michelle McCormack (UT-Martin), 6-0, 6-1, in the consolation final.

There will be two rounds of doubles contended, Sunday. Results will be available after 4 p.m. (CT).
