Four Lady Tigers Advance to Quarterfinals

Memphis, Tenn.-- - Four Lady Tigers advanced to the Quarterfinal round of the University of Memphis/Varsity Pro Shop Tennis Invitational, Friday.
Sophomore Christina Ladyman led the way with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Nina Sartz-Knudsen from Murray State University. Ladyman will play Ingrid Habony from Saint Louis University at 9 a.m., Saturday.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Sabrina Lindemann needed just two sets to down Austin Peay State's Celeste Tompkins, 6-0, 6-2. Lindemann will play Joni Jordan from the University of Missouri at 9 a.m., Saturday.
Junior Betsy Card came back from a 6-3 first set loss to win the next two sets and her No. 3 singles match, 6-2, 6-2, against Layla Tohme from Arkansas-Little Rock. Card's next opponent is Magui Cibils from Arkansas State. The two will play at 10:30 a.m., Saturday.
The team's lone senior, Claire O'Donoghue, downed Northwestern State's Brandee Lasuzzo, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and will face Southwest Missouri State's Amy Newman at 10:30, Saturday.
Three Lady Tigers fell in their opening matches and will compete in the consolation bracket, Saturday.
Freshman Angie Wilkinson fell to the University of Missouri's Julie Thomas, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4 singles, while sophomore Annika Westberg and graduate student Kate Borthwick, each lost in the No. 6 bracket. Westberg fell 6-3, 6-1, while Borthwick lost 6-2, 6-1.
Wilkinson will play Arkansas-Little Rock's Alejandra Lopez at 10:30, Saturday, while Westberg faces Austin Peay State's Kim Laub at noon. Borthwick will square off with Northwestern State's Kathryn Olsen at the same time.
At the No. 7 spot, sophomore Laura Hughes fell to Southwest Missouri State's Diana Stojcevski, 6-1, 6-0 and will play Michelle McCormack from Tennessee-Martin at 2:30, Saturday, in the consolation bracket.
All four Tigers doubles teams have advanced in the championship bracket. Ladyman and Lindemann teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Stephen F. Austin's Amanda Tabisz and Allison Edwards. The duo will play Saint Louis' Vicki Zielinski and Andra Wilcox at 3 p.m., Saturday.
At the No. 2 spot, the Lady Tigers team of Card and Wilkinson received a bye and will play Tennessee Tech's duo of Anastassia Mirnova and Carolina Melicoff at 3 p.m., Saturday.
The No. 4 spot also produced a bye for the Lady Tigers, and Borthwick and Hughes will face Stephen F. Austin's Katie Christensen and Ashley Cagle, at 4 p.m., Saturday.
Westberg and O'Donoghue teamed up at No. 3 to defeat Northwestern State's Natalie Unger and Kathryn Olsen, 8-2. Next up for the Lady Tigers is Tennessee Tech's Barbara Soto and Carey Lay at 4 p.m., Saturday.
