Four Lady Tigers Advance to Consolation Tennis Finals

Memphis, Tenn. - Four Lady Tigers advanced to the final round of the singles consolation bracket and two doubles pairs advanced in the University of Memphis/Varsity Pro Shop Tennis Invitational, Friday.
Freshman Angie Wilkinson led the charge with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles against Zarinah Brown, of Austin Peay State University. Wilkinson will face Laura Miller from Southwest Missouri State at 9 a.m. Sunday.
At No. 6 singles, the Lady Tigers have two players going head-to-head for the consolation title. As, sophomore Annika Westberg got a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gina Katona from Murray State. Her teammate, graduate student Kate Borthwick won as well, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 against Lisa Osborn of Stephen F. Austin. These two will face off at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Rounding out the Lady Tigers who are still alive is, sophomore Laura Hughes. Hughes, dispatched of Michelle McCormick from Tennessee-Martin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Her next match is against Ashley Cagle of Stephen F. Austin at 9 a.m. Sunday.
In No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Christina Ladyman/Sabrina Lindemann advanced with an 8-2 win over Vicki Zielinski/Andra Wilcox of Saint Louis University. Their next opponents will be Newman/Miller of Southwest Missouri State, the match will be at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
At No. 3 doubles, the team of Annika Westberg/Claire O'Donoghue got an 8-0 win against Barbara Soto/Carey Lay of Tennessee Tech. They will face Sandy Salado/Diana Stojcevski of Southwest Missouri State at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
