Women's Tennis Signs Netter from Peach State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis women's tennis coach Lee Taylor Walker announced the signing of Sarah Witkowski, a native of Peachtree City, Georgia, on Monday. Witkowski, rated a four-star recruit by tennisrecruiting.net, chose the Tigers over offers from Coastal Carolina, Murray State, East Carolina and Minnesota.
"I chose Memphis because they have a great team, an awesome coaching staff," Witkowski said. "It was the right fit for me, and I look forward to this incredible opportunity to grow as a person, a student and as an athlete all while being a Memphis Tiger."
Witkowski has been consistently ranked in the top 25 in the Southern tennis region and top 175 in the nation per tennisrecruiting.net and sta.usta.com.
"Sarah is going to be a great addition to this athletic program," Walker said. "She is a leader with solid values and character. Combining this with her great athletic ability will mean unlimited potential for her and our team in the future."
Witkowski claimed the Georgia state AA girls singles title as a freshman in high school. She also helped lead her team in to the state title during her freshman season. She has been playing tennis since she was 12 years old. Witkowski is currently coached by Sean Ferreira at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Before she began playing tennis she played six years of organized soccer.
Off the tennis court, Witkowski had helped teach Sunday school classes for fourth and fifth graders at her church. She has also helped lead tennis summer camps in her spare time. Witkowski is the daughter of John and Beverly Witkowski, she has one brother, Trey.
