MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team signed one player in the early signing period that ended Wednesday as Briarcrest's Lindsey Wiseman signed a National Letter of Intent to play her collegiate tennis career at Memphis.

"I think it's very good to have another local player on our team," head coach Charlotte Peterson said. "I look forward to Lindsey's experience as a strong junior player to bring more depth to our team in both singles and doubles."

Wiseman is a three-year letterwinner in tennis at Briarcrest, and last season was 9-2 at the top singles spot, advancing to the Division II state tournament in singles play and earning team MVP honors and All-Metro team honors.

"I've lived here in Memphis my whole life and I love it," Wiseman stated. "Memphis has always been a beautiful school and I've always been interested in it. I also love this city."

In junior tennis, Wiseman won the Southern Bullfrog in Little Rock and was a finalist at both the Mobile nationals and the Southern Indoors at Louisville. She also attended nationals at Boca Raton and was a member of the Junior Fed Cup Davis Cup team, representing Tennessee against other representatives from other southern states. She is listed on tennisrecruiting.net as a three-star recruit and is the No. 83 ranked player in the Southeast and the No. 7 ranked senior in the state of Tennessee. Of the seven ranked seniors in Tennessee, Wiseman is the highest-ranked Tennessee senior from the Memphis area according to tennisrecruiting.net. In the USTA Southern region, Wiseman is ranked No. 88 after advancing to the quarterfinals in singles at the Tennessee State Closed Juniors, falling in three sets before bouncing back to win the consolation championship. She also advanced to the consolation semifinals at the Alabama Junior State Hardcourt Open earlier this year.

Off the court, Wiseman is part of the FCA club and bible club and is a member of the SKS Sorority. She also volunteers to teach beginning tennis players. She was also recruited by Arizona, Wyoming, UT Chattanooga and Murray State.

She is the daughter of Mark and Nancy Wiseman and has two brothers, Matthew and Blake. Her dad played collegiate tennis at UT Martin and Tennessee Tech, while her brother, Matt, played at UT Martin and currently plays at Christian Brothers University here in Memphis.

Wiseman is the first recruit for 2007-08 for head coach Charlotte Peterson, whose 2006-07 recruiting class was recognized by tennisrecruiting.net as the No. 17 class of their mid-major top 25. Memphis will be looking to replace Alex Tjioe (December, 2006 graduate) and Christina Wieser (May 2007 graduate) for the 2007-08 season. Wiseman follows in the footsteps of Germantown product Kristin Noble, who wrapped up four-year Lady Tiger career in the 2005-06 season. Noble and her 2006-07 teammates will be honored Saturday at the Tiger football game by being the `I' of the Tiger during football pre-game festivities for having the highest team GPA last year.
