Cassel joins six other highly touted freshmen distance runners enrolling at the U of M last fall...Cassel is expected to make an immediate impact in track. During the cross country season she established herself as a top runner.

2003: CROSS COUNTRY-Placed 11th in her first collegiate meet at the Memphis Twilight Classic posting a team best 11:54.70 (2-Mile)...Was the Lady Tigers top-runner at the Commodore Classic finishing 27th with a 5K time of 20:31.86...Ran a 20:25.00 at the Notre Dame Invitational...Ran 24:30.41 at the Arkansas Chile Pepper (6K)...Finished 73rd at the C-USA Championships with a 6K time of 24:28.90.

PREP: Attended Jenks H.S...Lettered four years in track and cross country...Competed in the high jump, 300m hurdles, mile run, 800m, long jump and heptathlon...Her teams won the 2001 5A Oklahoma State Championship in track and 2002 5A Oklahoma State Championship in cross country...Was the co-captain of the cross country and track team...Placed 4th in the mile run and 2nd in the 4x800m relay at the 2001 5A State Championships...Named MVP of track team in 2001...Personal best times/marks in high school of 5:16 (mile run), 2:21 (800m), 17'02.00 (long jump), 5'03.00 (high jump), 48.0 (300m hurdles), 19:20 (5K), 11:45 (two-mile run), 3750 points (heptathlon)...Also played basketball and soccer in high school...Coached by Martha O'Rourke.
